Our Story

Pets Gone Healthy was founded in 2005 by Sandie & Ken Wheeler; lifelong residents of Marlborough. It was a fulfillment of a dream to combine their love and passion for animals, and the desire to own their own business. The inspiration came from their golden retriever Brandy and their desire to follow more of a holistic approach to her diet and overall health. Soon after opening the store, Brandy’s sister Tori joined the Pets Gone Healthy team, and both absolutely loved working as the store mascots & chief-taste testing officers. They did their jobs well!

In 2015, Tennison became our new mascot, and he took over the duties of store greeter & head mascot, and absolutely loved his job. A half golden retriever/half Irish setter, he had a mischievous side that made you laugh wholeheartedly (leave those bully sticks alone!). He was sweet and loved by everyone!

Today, our current mascot is Josie; such a sweetie! You will meet her when you stop by because as soon as the doorbell rings, she’s running to say hello & greet you!! Come on by and say hi! We’re looking forward to continuing to serve you the best products for your pet. We are proud to be your #1 Neighborhood Health Food Store for Pets. Support Local! Support Small!

Josie joined our family in Oct 2016 as a rescue from BayPath Humane Society in Hopkinton. We were asked to foster/adopt and well, let’s just say that lasted 2 days before we adopted her. Josie is “Our Player Girl”; consumed with the fact that a ball actually exists in this world. If you want to see a dog spin crazily with excitement, open the truck door and reach in the door pocket – it is quite amazing to watch!! She also keeps herself entertained indoors with her head in her toy box. Josie is happiest around her Papa and loves going to the park with him and hanging out with her doggie friends. Her favorite treat: Etta Says Wild Boar. Her favorite stuffed toy: the Fluff-n-Tuff mallard.

Tennison came on the scene at Pets Gone Healthy as a rehome from a local family. We were so lucky to know & care for such a sweet & gentle soul. He moved in like he had been with us forever, and happily greeted our customers with such joy (or should we say his customers!!). He put a smile on every person who walked through the door at Pets Gone Healthy. He was “Our Special Boy”; beautiful, carefree, quirky and the world was his to enjoy. No cookies left on the counter, please!! His favorite treats were “every single treat in the store” and his favorite toy was the Fluff-n-Tuff Hedgehog.

Tori was best known as the “Peek-A-Boo Girl” in the family. She joined Pets Gone Healthy in May 2006 with her gentle personality, which made her an excellent store greeter. She loved her daily task of retrieving the morning paper; so adorable & funny! She was easy-going, enjoyed riding in the truck, and a definite ball hound (Can we call her obsessed?). She loved to please & shared her love with that “special” sparkle in her eye! Her favorite treats were Bravo Venison Bites and an occasional bakery treat (any would do!). Favorite toy was the Kong Cozi “Bailey”.

Brandy was the inspiration for our store and enthusiastically wagged her tail while she worked as our 1st Mascot & Chief Taste Testing Officer. She was the “Testy Girl” in our family; the Alpha female in her litter with a very strong-minded personality, but learned quickly who the actual Alpha was – her PaPa. Boy! She enjoyed a good walk, a long ride and loved swimming in the lake & meditating with her Barney toy in her mouth. Oh, and who wouldn’t love a good belly rub? Her favorite treats were our bacon barrel biscuits.
